The GEO platform category didn't exist three years ago. Today it spans dedicated AI visibility monitoring tools, enterprise SEO suites adding AI-specific modules, content optimization platforms adapting for the answer layer, and brand monitoring tools expanding into AI-cited mentions. If you're trying to figure out which one belongs in your stack, or whether you need one at all, this guide reviews every meaningful option with honest assessments of who each tool is actually for, what it costs, and where the gaps are.

A disclosure upfront: we built Promptive, so we have an obvious perspective. We've done our best to represent all tools accurately based on publicly available information, published pricing, and documented features as of May 2026. We've tried to be fair about what each platform does well. Where we're unsure about current capabilities, we've said so. The goal is to help you make the right decision, even if that's not us.

What to look for in a GEO platform

A legitimate AI visibility platform does some combination of the following: tracks which AI engines mention or recommend your brand in response to tracked prompts; measures position and sentiment of those mentions; attributes citations to specific source URLs; surfaces competitor comparisons; and alerts you when something changes. The category is young enough that there's still meaningful variation in how comprehensively each tool does any of these things.

  • Engine coverage, which of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Grok are tracked. More engines = more complete picture; the debate is about which ones matter for your buyer category.
  • Sentiment scoring, does the tool measure how favorably the engine describes your brand? A continuous −1 to +1 scale beats positive/neutral/negative buckets. A published calibration rubric beats a black box.
  • Citation tracking, does the platform surface the specific URLs the engines cite? This is the most actionable signal: it tells you exactly what to build and where to seed.
  • Prompt management, how many prompts, how do you build the set, does the tool help you find the right prompts? This determines how complete your competitive coverage is.
  • Time to value, some platforms require weeks of sales calls before you see data; others deliver a baseline in fifteen minutes. Know which you need.
  • Agency features, white-label dashboards, multi-brand workspaces, pooled credits. Essential for agencies; irrelevant for single-brand teams.
  • Pricing transparency, sales-gated pricing adds procurement friction and makes budget comparison impossible. Know whether you're buying a product or starting a negotiation.

Dedicated GEO and AEO monitoring platforms

These are tools built specifically for AI visibility monitoring, tracking brand presence, sentiment, and citations across LLMs as their primary product, not as a module bolted onto something else.

Promptive, Best overall for B2B brands and agencies

Promptive is an AI visibility monitoring platform that tracks your brand's presence across the four major AI engines, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, on every plan, with no engine hidden behind a higher pricing tier. It was purpose-built for the B2B SaaS and marketing agency market, and the product reflects that focus: a structured five-taxonomy prompt framework, calibrated continuous sentiment scoring, full URL-level citation attribution, and agency white-label infrastructure that lets agencies run multiple client accounts from a single dashboard.

The monitoring workflow is built around prompts, the specific questions buyers ask when researching your category. Promptive organizes these into five types: category prompts ("best AI visibility tools"), comparison prompts ("Promptive vs Profound"), objection prompts ("is Promptive worth it for small teams"), use-case prompts ("track brand mentions in ChatGPT"), and alternative prompts ("alternatives to Profound"). Every prompt runs across all four engines on a daily or better schedule, and the dashboard shows position, sentiment, and citation sources for each, broken out by engine so you see exactly where you're winning and where you're not. When a rank flip, sentiment drop, or new competitor citation occurs, you get an alert.

The sentiment scoring model is one of the more differentiated capabilities in the market. Rather than a three-bucket positive/neutral/negative system, which flattens the signal in a way that makes trends invisible, Promptive uses a continuous −1 to +1 scale graded by an LLM rubric across three axes: affect (tone of the language used), stance (how directly the engine recommends the brand), and framing (how the brand is positioned within its category). The rubric is published on the site. A calibration check runs every Monday against a frozen set of 400 manually rated mentions, and the calibration history is public so any customer can audit the methodology and flag drift. That transparency is meaningful when you're presenting sentiment trends to leadership who will ask, legitimately, what the number actually measures.

Citation attribution is the other standout capability. Every grounded AI answer cites sources, specific URLs the engine retrieved or trusted when forming its answer. Promptive captures those URLs and surfaces them in a citation source map showing which domains the engine trusts for your tracked prompts, at what frequency, and whether your brand appears in those citations or not. That map is the strategic input for GEO optimization work: it tells you which Reddit threads, which G2 pages, and which press articles are doing the real work in the engine's recommendations. Without it, GEO strategy is guessing. With it, you have a prioritized seeding and content brief based on what the engines are already trusting.

Pricing starts at $69/month for the Starter plan: 20 tracked prompts, all four engines, daily refresh, full sentiment and citation data. The Team plan at $189/month includes 80 prompts, competitor tracking across up to five named competitors, Slack and webhook alerts, and export capabilities. The Agency plan at $449/month adds white-label dashboards with custom branding and domain, pooled prompt credits across multiple client workspaces, and priority support. All plans include a 7-day free trial with no credit card required, you can go from sign-up to first insight in under fifteen minutes without speaking to a salesperson.

For teams evaluating Promptive against alternatives, the site includes direct side-by-side comparisons: Promptive vs. Profound, Promptive vs. Peec, Promptive vs. Scrunch, and others, each with feature tables and honest assessments of where each tool wins.

Profound, Best for enterprise teams needing maximum engine coverage

Profound tracks nine or more engines, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Grok, Meta AI, DeepSeek, and Google AI Overviews, and has the deepest feature set in the dedicated GEO category. Their Conversation Explorer analyzes millions of ChatGPT conversations for citation patterns. Autonomous AEO Agents let teams build no-code workflows for content research, generation, optimization, and publishing. HIPAA compliance serves healthcare customers. Profound raised a $35M Series B (Sequoia) in early 2026.

The tradeoff is procurement friction: all pricing is sales-gated, onboarding takes weeks, and the platform is clearly sized for enterprise buying cycles. Not suited for teams that need data next week. Best for large organizations with dedicated AI visibility resources, a formal vendor evaluation process, and the need for nine-engine coverage plus agent automation as core requirements, not nice-to-haves.

Peec AI, Best for polished self-serve with AI-suggested prompts

Peec AI raised $21M in a Series A in November 2025 and reportedly onboarded 1,300+ brands in its first few months, reaching $4M+ ARR. The product is genuinely well-designed: clean dashboards, AI-assisted prompt suggestions that help users build a prompt set without starting from scratch, and a fast onboarding flow. Tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, but not Claude, which is a real gap for B2B brands selling to technical buyers who rely on Claude for research. Pricing is not publicly disclosed.

Scrunch AI, Best for enterprise AEO and AI shopping optimization

Scrunch pivoted from influencer marketing to "AI-native marketing" and raised a $15M Series A for the shift. The platform tracks how brands appear across LLMs with persona-based prompt testing (different buyer persona queries), polished deck-ready exports, and a genuinely differentiated integration with ChatGPT Shopping for e-commerce brands. The financial services vertical partnership adds regulated-industry compliance framing. Core plan starts at $250/month; Claude and Gemini require enterprise upgrade.

Athena HQ, Best for DTC brands and multi-brand Shopify operators

Athena HQ covers 8+ engines, integrates directly with Shopify for e-commerce AI visibility, includes an AI assistant ("Ask Athena") for in-dashboard analysis, and supports multi-brand portfolio tracking. The Shopify integration is genuinely distinctive, no equivalent exists in most other GEO tools. Pricing starts at $295/month on a credit-based model, which makes monthly costs harder to forecast. No prominently advertised free trial. Best for DTC operators and multi-brand holding companies with Shopify as their core platform.

Otterly, Best affordable entry point with GEO URL auditing

At $29/month, Otterly is the lowest-cost entry into dedicated GEO monitoring. It tracks six engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, no Claude) and includes a GEO URL auditing feature that scores individual pages against the structural criteria engines use when deciding whether to cite a source. That auditing capability is genuinely useful and has no direct equivalent elsewhere. The ceiling is real: no Claude, no continuous sentiment scoring, no agency white-label. Ideal for first-time GEO testers and content auditors.

AirOps, Best for AI content production pipelines

AirOps is a content engineering platform, not a monitoring tool, it helps teams produce AI-search-optimized content at scale via agentic workflows. Basic prompt tracking (100-250 prompts on paid plans) is a secondary feature. The primary value is production infrastructure: content pipelines that ingest source material, apply GEO-oriented optimization, and publish to CMS at volume. A free tier is available with a 14-day trial on paid plans, no card required. Best used alongside a monitoring platform: Promptive shows you where the gaps are; AirOps closes them at scale.

Traditional SEO platforms with AI visibility features

These are established SEO tools that have added AI visibility monitoring, primarily AI Overview tracking, as a feature within broader platforms. They're meaningful if you're already a customer and want a first look at AI visibility without adding a new vendor. They're not designed for teams running dedicated GEO programs that need per-engine LLM monitoring, citation attribution, or multi-prompt sentiment scoring.

BrightEdge

BrightEdge is one of the largest enterprise SEO platforms, with a Fortune 500 client roster across retail, finance, and technology. Their AI visibility suite tracks brand presence in Google AI Overviews and, increasingly, in LLM-generated answers, integrated with their existing rank tracking and content analytics. Enterprise-only pricing with no public tiers. Best value for organizations with existing BrightEdge contracts who want AI visibility in a consolidated reporting structure.

Semrush

Semrush added AI Overview tracking to Position Tracking in 2025, showing which tracked keywords surface AI Overviews and whether your brand appears. It's integrated cleanly and adds no cost on most plans. Semrush has over 90,000 paying customers and covers keyword research, site audit, competitive analysis, and content marketing alongside the AI Overview feature. Plans start at $129/month with a 7-day trial. Coverage is Google AI Overviews only, no standalone LLM monitoring.

SE Ranking

SE Ranking is a well-regarded mid-market SEO platform ($55-$155/month) that added AI Overview monitoring to Position Tracking in 2025. The feature shows which keywords trigger AI Overviews and whether your content appears. Useful for teams that want AI Overview data alongside traditional rank tracking in one affordable subscription. Doesn't cover standalone LLMs, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Perplexity independently.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs is one of the most respected SEO research platforms in the industry, known for its backlink index, keyword research, and site audit tools. In 2025 they introduced Brand Radar, a feature that monitors brand mentions across the web including emerging coverage in AI-generated content, alongside traditional rank data. For teams already using Ahrefs as their primary SEO intelligence tool, Brand Radar adds a useful brand monitoring signal without requiring a new subscription. Deep LLM prompt tracking and citation attribution require a dedicated GEO tool.

Moz Pro

Moz is one of the original enterprise SEO platforms, best known for its Domain Authority metric and practitioner-focused educational content. Their 2025 product updates added AI Overview presence tracking to SERP analysis, showing whether your content appears in AI Overviews for tracked keywords. Well-integrated into their existing rank tracking interface. Like other SEO platforms adding AI features, best for teams already in the Moz ecosystem; not a dedicated GEO program.

seoClarity

seoClarity is an enterprise SEO intelligence platform with a large-brand client roster. Their Content Clarity module now includes AI Overview tracking and analysis of how AI-generated answers reference brand content, with optimization recommendations. Enterprise-only pricing. Best for organizations with existing seoClarity contracts who want structured AI visibility reporting as part of their SEO workflow rather than a standalone GEO program.

Search Atlas

Search Atlas is a newer SEO platform positioning itself as an all-in-one SEO + GEO tool, covering AI Overviews monitoring, some LLM tracking, and content optimization workflows with GEO criteria applied. Competitive mid-market pricing. The appeal is consolidated tooling; the tradeoff relative to dedicated GEO platforms is analytical depth, fewer engines, less granular citation attribution. Worth evaluating for teams that prioritize consolidation over depth.

AgencyAnalytics

AgencyAnalytics is a white-label reporting platform for marketing agencies, aggregating data from Google Analytics, Search Console, social platforms, and increasingly AI visibility signals into branded client dashboards. Their Google AI Overview tracking feature, added in 2025, lets agencies show clients where they appear in AI Overviews alongside other channel data. Not a deep GEO analytics tool, but useful for agencies whose primary need is consolidated reporting rather than diagnostic GEO optimization.

AccuRanker

AccuRanker is a dedicated rank tracking platform known for data speed and accuracy. Their 2025 feature updates added AI SERP feature detection, tracking when AI Overviews appear for tracked keywords and whether brand content is cited in them. For SEO teams using AccuRanker as their primary rank tracker, the AI Overview detection adds a useful signal within an already trusted workflow. Coverage is AI Overviews only; not a cross-LLM monitoring solution.

Conductor

Conductor is an enterprise content intelligence platform used by large organizations to manage editorial strategy, content performance, and SEO at scale. AI visibility features track AI Overview presence and emerging LLM signals alongside traditional content metrics. The editorial workflow integration, AI visibility data surfaces next to content assignment queues and performance benchmarks, is the primary value add. Enterprise-only pricing and implementation cycles make it most relevant for existing Conductor customers.

AI content optimization platforms

These tools don't monitor AI visibility, they help you produce the kind of content that earns AI citations. They're most valuable after you've used a monitoring platform to identify your GEO gaps and need infrastructure to close them. Used alone, without a monitoring loop, they're optimizing without measuring.

SurferSEO

SurferSEO analyzes top-performing pages for any query and gives data-driven recommendations for improving relevance signals, covering content structure, entity coverage, and topical depth. As AI search has grown, Surfer has updated its recommendations to account for the content structures that earn AI citations: definition-first organization, comprehensive entity naming, direct question answering. Useful as an optimization layer after identifying citation gaps with a monitoring tool.

Frase

Frase is an AI-powered content research and brief tool that helps writers create content designed to answer specific questions, which maps naturally to the prompt structures AI engines respond to. The question-research feature and AI-assisted brief generation are particularly well-suited for teams building content designed to earn citations in AI answers. A production tool, not a monitoring tool. Best combined with a GEO monitoring platform to close the loop between content creation and performance measurement.

Clearscope

Clearscope grades content quality against the top-performing pages for a target query, helping teams ensure published content meets the topical authority and structural standards that both traditional search and AI engines apply when evaluating citation eligibility. Its recommendations help identify specific terms, entities, and structural improvements that make pages more extractable. Particularly useful for brands addressing the extractability dimension of AI citation problems, when the domain is trusted but the page structure is failing.

MarketMuse

MarketMuse is an AI-powered content strategy platform that helps organizations identify content gaps, build topic clusters, and plan content that establishes topical authority. Topical authority is directly relevant to GEO: engines give more citation weight to brands that cover a topic comprehensively across multiple pages rather than publishing isolated pieces. MarketMuse's competitive content analysis and topic modeling are useful for brands building a GEO visibility program from scratch, identifying which topics to own in depth before producing anything.

Brand and mention monitoring tools

These tools monitor brand mentions across the web at broad scale, social media, news, forums, and increasingly AI platforms. They're not purpose-built for GEO prompt tracking, but they provide useful signal about how your brand is discussed in the sources AI engines pull from.

Brand24

Brand24 is a real-time brand monitoring tool that tracks mentions across news, blogs, forums, social media, podcasts, and AI-generated content. In 2025, Brand24 added AI chatbot tracking, monitoring when brand names appear in content published about or from AI platforms. For brands that want to understand their broader mention footprint across all the sources AI engines draw from, Brand24 provides complementary signal to dedicated GEO monitoring. Best used as a reputation intelligence layer alongside a more focused AI citation tracking platform.

Talkwalker

Talkwalker is an enterprise-grade brand intelligence platform used by global brands for social listening, media monitoring, and consumer intelligence. Their AI-powered analytics suite tracks brand mentions across hundreds of millions of data points including emerging AI platform discussions. For enterprise teams with existing Talkwalker contracts, the AI mention tracking adds a signal to their existing brand intelligence data. Talkwalker is most valuable as a comprehensive monitoring layer for large brands managing reputation across many channels; it's not purpose-built for GEO program management.

How the platforms compare

The table below covers the dedicated GEO and AEO platforms where the feature comparison is most meaningful. For the SEO and content platforms above, the relevant comparison is with your existing SEO tool, ask whether the built-in AI visibility features cover your needs before adding a new subscription.

How to choose the right platform

The right tool almost entirely depends on your team's size, budget, and the specific problem you're solving. A few clear paths:

You need all four major engines, fast

Promptive. All four engines on every plan, self-serve, live in fifteen minutes, $69/month with a no-card trial. If your buyers use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, which most B2B buyers do, this is the most direct path to a complete picture without a sales cycle.

You're a large enterprise with a formal evaluation process

Profound is worth the evaluation time if you genuinely need nine-engine coverage and autonomous agent workflows. Budget several weeks for the sales process and onboarding. The feature set justifies it for teams running dedicated AI visibility programs at enterprise scale.

You're starting out on a tight budget

Otterly at $29/month, no card required, is the lowest-friction way to see what AI visibility monitoring actually looks like. SE Ranking works if you're already paying for it and just want to add AI Overview tracking. Neither is a full GEO program, but both are legitimate baselines.

You're running e-commerce or need AI shopping visibility

Scrunch for ChatGPT Shopping optimization and financial services. Athena HQ for DTC brands with Shopify. Both are meaningfully more expensive than pure monitoring tools but are designed for the specific optimization challenges those categories face.

You're already deep in a traditional SEO platform

Start with the AI visibility features built into your existing tool. When you hit the ceiling, typically when you need per-engine sentiment scoring, citation attribution, or more than basic AI Overview tracking, that's the trigger for adding a dedicated GEO platform alongside it.

You need to produce GEO-optimized content at scale

AirOps for production pipelines. SurferSEO, Frase, or Clearscope for individual page optimization. Use these alongside a monitoring platform that tells you which gaps to close, don't produce content without a measurement loop.

The honest assessment

This category is real and growing fast. The tools that existed in 2024 were early dashboards. The platforms you see here range from production-grade enterprise software to lean self-serve tools that deliver genuine value at $29/month. The choice isn't between "serious platform" and "toy", it's between different combinations of engine coverage, feature depth, pricing transparency, and time to value.

The most important decision isn't which tool, it's whether to start. Every week without a baseline is a week your competitors are learning things about their AI presence that you can't see. Start a free Promptive trial, 7 days, no card, live data in fifteen minutes. Or read GEO is the new SEO to understand the measurement shift before picking a tool.
